ALFA TRALL (Transatlantic Lifelong Learning: Rebalancing Relations) is a multinational research project funded by the ALFA III Programme. The Lifelong Learning is a concept introduced and widely spread since the mid of 90s and is nowadays associated with the recognition of training and learning as a growth for individuals and society as a whole. In the Knowledge Society an important role is played by HEIs, training agencies and the individual dimension of the conscious person who learns, using a variety of opportunities and strategies, taking advantage of a wide range of educational institutions during lifelong. In this situation, HEIs and training agencies need to address complex challenges, in particular: a) offer the appropriate training opportunities, responding to the needs of current society, especially in terms of demands of the Labour Market, involving stakeholders in the curricular design and development (SME, national and local governments, public and private organizations, etc.) b) use tools and strategies in the training pathways that allow for the recognition and certification of informal non-formal learning This project, participated by a consortium of 20 institutions of HEI (15 for Latin America and 5 for Europe), intends to realize and experiment different curricular experiences in Lifelong Learning, involving different local stakeholders and fostering a process able to reflect institutional and societal needs, in order to be effective actors in lifelong learning.
